The eternal question.
How much is our work worth?
I am a leather crafter and I always use the best materials available, I hand cut, hand tool and hand stitch every thing I make.
Increasingly I am finding that people are complaining that I am over pricing my work. Unfortunately they seem to be comparing it to mass produced items from third world countries that pay children about half a buck a day to do the work.
I see many crafts people in my area who seem to be resigned to getting less for there work just so they get something.
So what to do?
Should I pay myself like some third world wage slave and skimp on materials and workmanship?
Should I try to find a way to educate the customer as to why I charge what I do?
Should I just resign myself to waiting for that increasingly rare person who seems to appreciate solid hand craftsmanship?
I'm sure some of you have faced this dilemma as well. Any opinions are welcome.

Re: How Much?
Sun, July 22, 2007 - 12:49 PMHaving responded to your post on By The Hand my opinion is now that you are triple posting and causing at least one person to open two tribes unecessarily to see the same damn question.
Cross-posting is Impolite and a royal pain. -

Re: How Much?
Sun, July 22, 2007 - 12:55 PMSorry but there are members who don't belong to all these tribes and I am trying to get as many opinions as possible.
I will try to be better in the future. -

Re: How Much?
Sun, July 22, 2007 - 1:11 PMTry Listings then. That's what they're for. They appear in the listings page in every tribe and people can Choose to open them rather than being forced to open every tribe they belong to to see the same listing. if you want it to be a discussion, post it in the tribe with the largest membership.
At least its a discussion topic and not an announcement!
I won't allow renfair announcements in any of my faire -related tribes for that very reason.
